What is the CTU? The Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) is an inpatient and outpatient research support service funded by the NIH 's National Center for Research Resources (NCRR). The CTU provides clinical research infrastructure for USC investigators with peer-reviewed protocols to study normal human function, as well as the mechanisms treatment and prevention of human disease. The major components are:
A Scientific Advisory Committee, appointed by the Principal Investigator, sets priorities and policies for the Center, and reviews and decides on protocols submitted for CTU use. Protocols are reviewed for scientific merit and for need of CTU services. Prior approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is prerequisite to the review and initiation of studies on the CTU. The CTU may host investigators funded by NIH, by other federal, state and local agencies as well as by the private sector. The Center can support a limited number of unfunded preliminary studies that have a high likelihood of leading to peer-reviewed funding. CTU staff is available to assist investigators in the design of studies for grant submission.
